Installing The Borla

The Borla

Here is a picture of the Borla #14555 cat-back exhaust system. This is all the pieces for the 1996 model cars.

The Lift

Making things difficult for me was Mother Nature. Here is a picture of the lift I was to use two days before the install was scheduled.

Lower Panhard Rod

Step one to removing the stock exhaust is to get the panhard rods out of the way. Remove the large bolt holding the lower panhard rod to the right side of the car. You can then pivot the lower panhard rod out of the way.

Upper Panhard Rod

Step two is to remove the upper panhard rod. Remove the three large bolts holding the upper panhard rod to the left side of the car. You will also have to remove two small screws which attach the upper panhard rod to the gas tank heat shield. You can then pivot the upper panhard rod out of the way.

The Old Muffler

Remove your stock exhaust by undoing the clamp at the Y-pipe. Next, loosen the clamp at the muffler and remove that pipe. Mine would not come off, so I took a hacksaw to it right at the muffler. Heat is the best choice but was not in my aresonal of tools. Note at the arrow on the picture, here you can see my exhaust tap-in for
Manometer Testing. Check out the page to see what it told me and how to do it yourself.

Exhaust Routing Over The Axle

Here is the Borla routed over the rear axle. You can see the 3" band clamps where the exhaust goes together here.

Stock Hanger

Stock Hanger

Use the stock hangers to hang the Borla in place, then tighten the clamps from back to front.
